When a film is tied down to such a stunning star cast one is sure to expect a whole lot from the film and the same happened with this Terry George flick. The movie addresses the huge Armenian genocide that took place during the first World War as it tries to bring forward all the acts of annihilation and bloodshed committed by the Ottoman empire of Turkey as they try and wipe out the existence of Armenia from the face of planet Earth.
A movie maker of Terry George’s caliber is sure to provide an output that could do wonders but not in this case. The movie was fluent and had various interesting spaces where you could feel the Midas touch but for a large part of it you would feel the actors dragging the script as Terry George missed to hit the mark this time around. Apart from the slow story telling the movie had a well balanced background score with good cinematographic work from Javier Aguirresarobe it was considerably okay to watch.
The blends of romance and the genocide were very well portrayed but one couldn’t feel the terror and the fear the characters faced, call it the lack of communication or inadequate movie making techniques even the best failed to sail this ship to the coast as it misses out on what could’ve been a great journey.
The movie’s mediocrity makes it the a mess it wasn’t meant to be.
